Diffusion-Weighted MRI: Influence of b-value and lesion characteristics on conspicuity of mammographically-occult invasive breast cancer in women with dense breasts

چکیده
Women with increased breast density are at elevated risk for breast cancer, independent of other risk factors. While dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI is the gold standard for identification of cancer in dense breasts, high costs and safety concerns associated with gadolinium contrast preclude its use for routine screening. As such, there is a critical need for a safe, effective, low cost screening method in this population. Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI), a rapid non-contrast MRI technique, has shown promise for the detection and characterization of breast cancer. We sought to evaluate DWI conspicuity of invasive breast cancers in woman with dense breasts and to determine whether b-value and lesion characteristics affect visibility.

Breast-Specific γ-Imaging for the Detection of Mammographically Occult Breast Cancer in Women at Increased Risk.
UNLABELLED Breast-specific γ-imaging (BSGI) is a physiologic imaging modality that can detect subcentimeter and mammographically occult breast cancer, with a sensitivity and specificity comparable to MRI. The purpose of this study was to determine the incremental increase in breast cancer detection when BSGI is used as an adjunct to mammography in women at increased risk for breast cancer. ME...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the MRI findings and histology of clinically and mammographically occult invasive breast cancers detected by MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective review was undertaken of 1,336 breast MRI examinations performed during a 2-year period. Among these, 68 nonpalpable mammographically occult invasive cancers were identified in 57 women with...
متن کاملBreast cancer detection using sonography in women with mammographically dense breasts
BACKGROUND Mammography, the gold standard for breast cancer screening misses some cancers, especially in women with dense breasts. Breast ultrasonography as a supplementary imaging tool for further evaluation of symptomatic women with mammographically dense breasts may improve the detection of mass lesions otherwise missed at mammography. The purpose of this study was to determine the increment...
متن کاملPositron emission mammography is a useful adjunct in assessment of dense breasts.
Worldwide breast cancer remains as the most common malignancy in women and the numbers who form a subgroup with dense breast parenchyma are substantial. In addition to mammography, the adjuncts used for further evaluation of dense breasts have been anatomically based modalities such as ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. The practice of functionally based imaging of breasts is relatively...
